In 1991, our son, who was at that time three years old, was diagnosed with the rare 'Progeria' (Hutchinson-Gilford-syndrome). At that time, there was little information about the disease pattern and no prospect of aid or cure. Since only few cases of 'Progeria' were known world-wide, there was not a single self-help organization for families concerned in Europe which could have provided information and support.

Solely the aid organisation 'Sunshine Foundation' in the USA (The Original Dream-Makers) had adressed itself to the task of supporting children with 'Progeria' since 1981. Once a year, "Sunshine" organizes and finances unforgettable one-week meetings for the concerned children known world-wide.

Likewise, the 'Progeria Research Foundation' in the USA has been performing the task of helping children with 'Progeria' for quite a while. It raises money for research and science in order to discover the cause of 'Progeria'.

The European families realized already back in 1996 how essential activities were for the children with 'Progeria'. At the family meetings, the children often get the only opportunity to meet other families as well as qualified physician: Dr. Thorsten Marquardt

Here, the families find their identity and a source of vitality. Only here concerned families receive the necessary information and aid which they need in order to cope with their unique task.
